Are you sober or in recovery?

Is there a difference? Yes and the difference is actually very important in terms of permanent sobriety and relapse.

I am sober.

Being sober is a major step in the journey towards recovery. It is actually the first stepping stone. Many start abstaining from alcohol without any help to address their underlying issues. This is referred to this as being a “dry drunk.” You are physically healing but have not addressed the addiction mentally/spiritually/emotionally. Without this, you can be left vulnerable to relapse and make this attempt at sobriety a short term victory.

I am in recovery.

Someone in recovery has addressed the mental/spiritual/emotion side of their addiction. There are many ways to address the underlying issues of addiction. At Through the Archway, we help our residents regain their spiritual connection in order to achieve permanent sobriety through our 12-step immersion program.

We can help. If you are ready to start your recovery journey, please reach out to us. We are here for you!
