We are living in unprecedented times. All of us are quarantining and are rearchitecting our daily routines. For many of us who aren’t living with family, this means a lot of alone time. It’s time to think and reflect.

We all know that addiction is a disease. It’s not something that we can walk away from easily. Triggers can present themselves throughout the day without warning. It is especially difficult since the substances have probably been with you for a while.

We need to re-train our brain. Relapsing is an easy accident. There are many traps along the way and with everything going it doesn’t make avoiding relapse any easier. Here are some tips:

  1. Leave the past in the past. Don’t beat yourself! We need to fail to succeed. Focus on the now and where you want to be tomorrow. Go forth and conquer!
  2. Stay fit. The body and mind work together keeping you balanced and healthy. Nurture your body after the abuse it has been through. Give your self whole foods and physical activity.
  3. Keep a journal. Create a recovery journal and record your inner voice. It will help you go back and see all of the times you were a badass and the triggers that have effected you in the past. It can help give you more clarity on the things that helped you.
  4. Keep in touch. Remember to stay connected with the people who support your sobriety. Don’t forget to go to your virtual meetings. They are still going on despite the pandemic!
